Recording
Choose a capture source, set up audio and camera, and record a clean take that is ready to review in the editor.
Choose a capture source
Open New Recording and choose the source that matches what the viewer needs to see. Your choice affects what is included in the recording, but you can still change the finished video in the editor.
| Source | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Display | You need to show your whole display, move between apps, or include menus and system UI. |
| Window | You want to keep the recording focused on one app window. Drishti follows that window if you move it. |
| Area | You need a defined part of the screen, such as a browser pane or a design canvas. |
Hide desktop icons
For a display capture, turn on Hide desktop icons when your desktop may appear. It removes the icon layer from the capture without changing your desktop.
A window capture opens in the editor with a 16:9 QHD frame by default. This gives windows with varying sizes a consistent output frame. You can choose a different output aspect later.
Set up audio and camera
- MicrophoneNew Recording > Source picker
- Turn this on to record narration, then select the input device you want to use.
- System AudioNew Recording > Source picker
- Turn this on to include audio playing on your Mac, such as app sounds or a product video.
- CameraNew Recording > Source picker
- Turn this on when you want a camera bubble in the recording. You can change its appearance later in the Camera inspector.
Start and stop a take
- 1
Check the source preview
Confirm that the display, window, or area contains what you intend to record and that your audio and camera choices are correct.
- 2
Start recording
Select Record. Drishti shows a three-second countdown so you can prepare the screen before capture begins.
- 3
Record the task at a steady pace
Move the cursor purposefully and pause briefly after important clicks. This gives Auto Zoom clearer activity to follow.
- 4
Stop from the menu bar
When you stop, Drishti opens the recording in the editor for review and export.
Decide now and change later
- Decide before recording: the capture source, whether to include microphone or system audio, and whether to record a camera feed.
- Change later: camera position, shape, size, mirror, background treatment, border, output aspect, trims, cuts, audio volume, and generated zooms.
- You cannot add a camera feed or an audio source that was not recorded. Record another take if that source is essential.
